The Vacancy

Absolute Solar and Wind, part of the RSK Group is currently seeking to appoint a Commercial Director on a full time, permanent, hybrid basis at their head office in Loch Lomond (Hybrid) or the Manchester office.

This role will involve regular travel to the HQ in Loch Lomond.

Its specific services include the design, supply, installation and maintenance of commercial photovoltaic solar panel systems, solar farms, battery energy storage systems and wind turbines. The company works across many sectors, including utilities, local government, commercial property, agriculture, hospitality, tourism, and universities

The Commercial Director will be responsible for overseeing and managing the commercial and contractual activities of Absolute Solar and Wind.

Reporting to the Managing Director and the Board, with additional reporting to the RSK Divisional Commercial Director, the Commercial Director will ensure full commercial and contractual compliance of all projects throughout their life cycle from estimating and tendering, through construction to the post construction phase.

The ideal candidate will capable of commercially managing a growing business, implementing systems and procedures  that will enable the organisation to develop and grow, by delivering bids, negotiating contracts and ensuring best commercial practice throughout the life cycle of the project, as well developing a commercial team necessary to support the needs of the business and projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the bid writing, tendering & estimating process.
  • Commercial Contract reviews and contract negotiation with clients.
  • Strategically implement expand, preserve or improve commercial procedures and standards, aligned with RSK Group and Divisional standards.
  • Identify, mitigate and resolve contractual and commercial problems.
  • Overseeing financial key performance indicators (KPIs) of projects.
  • Ensure and manage monthly assessment of Work in Progress, Cost Value Reconciliations, cashflow forecast and forecast of cost to complete are undertaken efficiently and accurately.
  • Provide financial direction and instruction to the project team, ensuring they understand key aspects of the contract.
  • Reporting on financial performance to the Board and other senior staff members
  • Supply chain management (including contract administration, subcontract administration and procurement)

Skills & Experience Required

  • BSc (Hons) in Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying or similar equivalent.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CIOB, or ICE or other equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Experienced within a senior quantity surveying or commercial management role and be able to demonstrate possession of sufficient gravitas and integrity to undertake the role of Commercial Director.
  • Sound working knowledge of construction and contract law and various forms of Conditions of Contract
  • Excellent client liaison, negotiating and people management skills.
  • Extensive commercial understanding of the construction industry within the Building or Civil Engineering sectors. Experience within the renewable energy industry is a distinct advantage.
